Wiki Projects > Wiki Projects > Wiki Project: Exodus

One of the harsh realities women gifted in leadership, ministry, preaching and teaching in the Churches of Christ face  is that often, they must choose between the church that raised them up, taught them and formed them in their Christian faith, and the call of God to serve the church fully with all of their gifts and self. The Churches of Christ have lost many gifted and dedicated women who have, out of necessity, followed the call of God to serve elsewhere. Incredibly, their gifts and voices are barely missed–because, as one among this number has said, their gifts and voices were never really present, fully used, or appreciated in the first place.

Many men, as well, have found that their support of gender justice in the church has forced them to choose between the integrity of their ministry and the church they seek to serve. Their exodus from the Churches of Christ carries its own weighty witness, for they chose the welfare of the church and of the women silenced within it over their own.

This page is an attempt to honor those women and men: to honor their courage in following the call of God; to make public and grieve our loss of their presence and service in our midst.
